Steven McB Senior Sentenced to 24 Months in Federal Prison

The patriarch of McB Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, Steven McB Senior, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to one count of crop insurance fraud.

According to court records, a U.S. District Court judge also ordered two years of supervised release and more than $4 million in restitution to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He must self-surrender before December 1.

The sentencing took place on October 16, just under a year after Steven entered his guilty plea in Kansas City federal court in November 2024.

The Fraud Case

Steven admitted to engaging in fraudulent activity between 2018 and 2020 that caused economic losses to the USDA. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri, he accepted responsibility for submitting falsified documents that underreported Midbe Farm and Cattle Co.’s corn and soybean production totals.

As a result, the business unlawfully received more than $3 million in federal crop insurance indemnities and premium subsidies.

Prosecutors described the actions as a deliberate scheme that caused significant economic harm to federal programs and taxpayers.

What Sentence Was He Facing?

Steven McB Senior was facing a maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison without parole.

Federal prosecutors filed a sentencing memorandum on October 6 recommending 41 months in prison, three years of supervised release, and approximately $4 million in restitution.

Ultimately, the court imposed a 24-month sentence — significantly less than both the statutory maximum and the prosecution’s recommendation.

His Public Statement

Following his guilty plea in November 2024, his sons Steven McB Jr. and Jesse McB shared their father’s statement on the Meet the McBs podcast.

“I entered a plea agreement to address crop insurance issues with farming operations back in 2018 through 2020,” the statement read. “I personally accept responsibility as the buck stops with me. I will always acknowledge a failure in judgment and action just like I will always celebrate our McB team when it comes to enjoying success.”

He continued:

“From our first-generation family farm to all our other McB family ventures, we are committed to conducting business the right way. The high standards we satisfy now in 2024 will continue to guide McB endeavors and projects moving forward.”

The Investigation and Family Impact

News of an FBI investigation into Steven’s business dealings first surfaced during Season 2 of McB Dynasty.

Steven McB Jr. initially tried to keep the investigation private, confiding only in his mother, Christy McB, and the company’s CFO, Galina Saska. Eventually, he revealed the situation to his brothers Jesse and Cole during the Season 2 finale, preparing them for the possibility that prison time was likely.

“It’s looking like there may be prison time involved,” Steven Jr. told them in a raw on-camera moment.

In a July 2025 interview with The Daily Dish, Steven Jr. opened up about the emotional toll the investigation had taken.

“It’s been a very, very stressful time for our family,” he said. “As much good as we’ve had going on, there has always been this cloud that’s been looming over us.”

After the Season 2 finale aired on September 1, he further described the emotional strain as sentencing approached.

“All of the emotions are being stirred — scared, nervous, anything and everything,” he admitted. “We love him so much and love our family unit. So to picture him not being here with us for any amount of time, it’s scary.”

He added:

“We’re ready to get past that day, deal with whatever comes of it, and move on. We know no matter what, if we stick together as a family, we’ll make it through anything.”

A Family at a Crossroads

The McB brand has long been built on grit, faith, family unity, and the golden acres of Midbe Farm and Cattle Co. But this chapter represents a turning point.

Between 2018 and 2020, falsified crop reports led to more than $3 million in improper federal subsidies. What prosecutors described as a calculated act has now resulted in a federal conviction.

In court, Steven reportedly accepted his sentence with composure.

“The buck stops with me.”

For the McB family, the sentence feels both like a reckoning and a form of closure. While Steven was facing up to 30 years — and prosecutors sought 41 months — the two-year sentence allows the family to prepare for a defined period of absence.

For Steven Jr., the eldest son and likely successor to the family operation, the weight is both personal and public. The McB name carries influence in Gallatin, Missouri, and beyond. Now, leadership means more than managing cattle and crops — it means navigating scrutiny, rebuilding trust, and protecting the family legacy.

The Missouri wind may carry secrets, but this one has been laid bare in federal court.

When Steven McB Senior reports to prison before December 1, the McB dynasty will enter a new chapter — one defined not by expansion or television success, but by accountability, resilience, and the long road toward redemption.
