Resident Alien Season 5's Potential Future After SyFy Cancellation Gets Update From Cast & Creator

Resident Alien season 5’s potential future after its cancellation on Syfy and USA gets an update from star Alan Tudyk and creator Chris Sheridan. Resident Alien season 4 has been confirmed to be the final season of the show, with Syfy axing the series early last week. The upcoming episodes will bring Harry Vanderspeigle’s onscreen story to an end.

Speaking with TV Insider, Tudyk and Sheridan explained whether Resident Alien season 5 could happen despite the series’ cancellation. The series star hoped that, despite the show ending, its popularity could bring it back. However, the showrunner explains how season 4 offers a strong ending to the story so far. Check out what Tudyk and Sheridan had to say below:

Alan Tudyk: It’s a weird goodbye because the show’s very popular. By all metrics from a different time, that would assure another season. It’s just in this climate, the TV world is changing in a big way, and I feel like because we’re canceled now, we will become an existing IP, which then could be revived. So the quickest way to get a next season is to be canceled, oddly.

Chris Sheridan: That has not been a discussion. … If we weren’t able to tell our story the way we wanted to, that is something I think that we’d want to do. But I think because this season is what it is and, in such a beautiful way, finishes telling the story after four seasons, I think just hopping into a fifth season somewhere else doesn’t feel right for the show.

What Tudyk & Sheridan’s Statements Mean For Resident Alien’s Future

After Resident Alien’s cancellation was announced, Sheridan and other cast members said they saw the end of the show on the horizon. The creator also ensured that, despite not officially having been announced as the final season, the last episodes would deliver a definitive, satisfying conclusion to the sci-fi comedy. This is evident in how many storylines have been completed.

However, Tudyk’s hope seems to be that characters in Resident Alien can return for another season in the future. Sheridan, however, seems okay with the show coming to a close after season 4. With only two episodes left and most of the larger plot resolved, it seems unlikely the series could come back for a season 5 regardless.

Still, the series is based on a comic series created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. The show has mostly embraced an original storyline, meaning there are elements from the comics it hasn’t pulled from yet. These could make for an interesting season 5, but that could also extend the series beyond what its original vision was.

Our Take On The Possibility Of Resident Alien Season 5

Although it’s sad that Resident Alien is ending after season 4, it seems like Sheridan’s vision for the series is about to reach a definitive conclusion. Given how hesitant the creator is about having the show come back somewhere else, it sounds like the final episodes will provide a fitting end to the story of Harry and Patience, Colorado.

Even so, it sounds like Tudyk would do more if given the chance, keeping the door open for Resident Alien season 5. But continuing would also risk ruining what might be a strong finale for the series. Whether the show should return or not will likely be clearer once the series finale arrives.
