McBee Dynasty's Steven Says Mom 'Tried 4 Different Times to Have a Daughter' but Now Enjoys Being Grandma to Girls (Exclusive)
The reality TV star tells PEOPLE that his mom has a “glow in her eyes” whenever she’s around her granddaughters
Steven McBee Jr.’s mom was born to be a girl mom.
During an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the McBee Dynasty star, 32, opens up about how his mom, Kristi McBee, always wanted to have daughters. He says that after four attempts to have a girl, she “finally gave up” and accepted her role as a boy mom. Now, with her sons welcoming girls of their own, he says the proud mom of four can enjoy having granddaughters.
“She didn’t get to have any daughters. That’s why she tried four different times to have a daughter, and it didn’t work out. She finally gave up after the fourth,” he tells PEOPLE.
“And so, having two granddaughters has been … You can see it in her face,” he continues. “The glow in her eyes and just how much she enjoys it. I think she spends four or five nights out of the week, whether it’s at [our] house, spending the night [and] sleeping with the babies or up at Cole and Casey’s house at the farm.”

On Instagram, ahead of Kristi’s debut on reality TV, Steven Jr. shared a picture on his Instagram with his mom and his two nieces. In the caption, he urged everyone to watch the latest episode and shared his appreciation for his mom.
“Y’all tune in to tonight’s episode of The McBee Dynasty to see Momma McBee’s grand entry into the world of Reality TV! 9/8c on @bravotv” he wrote in the caption. “Mom’s always been such a pivotal influence in all of our lives – giving great advice, support and love … and finally we get to show off this incredible woman to the world. She does her best to keep us boys on the straight and narrow (a tall task to say the least).”
“She’s a very private, introverted person – so filming for the show was without a doubt uncomfortable for her, but we’re all so proud of how she did,” he continued. “She comes across exactly who she shows up as in our everyday lives – a loving (and maybe slightly overprotective) momma bear 😂. We think y’all will love her as much as we do! Excited for tonight – we’ll see y’all this evening 🤠.”
Last season, the ranch was at a crossroads as family patriarch and recent divorcee Steve McBee debating which of his four sons — Steven Jr. (“the father figure”), Jesse (“the pretty boy”), Cole (“the wild child”) and Brayden (“the baby”) — would take over operations.
Now, eldest brother Steven, of Joe Millionaire: For Richer or Poorer fame, is in charge. But his dramatic plans for the future of the farm unsurprisingly create a power struggle within the family.

In this season of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, the McBees are gearing up for some big changes as they try to put family above all. PEOPLE had an exclusive first look at the trailer for season 2, and things are starting to look a little different on the ranch.
Amid an FBI investigation into Steven Sr., the McBee Farm and Cattle patriarch, his sons must work to keep their empire from crumbling while navigating their own personal challenges.
“The stakes couldn’t be higher as eldest brother Steven Jr. has been left in charge of the McBee family farm and the race is on during harvest season to save it from being foreclosed,” the official logline reads. “With Steven’s relationship with Calah on the rocks, Jesse’s anxiety around marrying Alli and Cole buckling under the pressure of becoming a father with pregnant girlfriend Kacie, these young men find themselves attempting to salvage their relationships and save the farm at the same time.”
The trailer opened with Steven Jr. declaring that “my loyalty lies with my family and on this farm and ranch.” He then added, “I would defend that to the day I die.”
Season 2 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys premiered Monday, June 30, on Bravo. Episodes are available for streaming the next day on Peacock. Season 1 of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys is currently streaming on Peacock.
