‘American Pickers’ Announces Return Following Frank Fritz’s Death
It’s been announced that American Pickers will return for Season 27. This follows a few transitions in the lives of the series’ cast and crew, including the aftermath of the loss of series star Frank Fritz. With the news, fans are already wondering what they can expect for the upcoming season, and the American Pickers franchise overall.
American Pickers‘ Season 27 Release Date Has Been Announced
On the History Channel series, co-host Mike Wolfe and a partner travel throughout the United States for antiques, all in the search for lost treasures. For years, Wolfe shared hosting duties with the late Frank Fritz, who passed away this past September.
American Pickers recently shared its 26th season with fans, premiering back in October 9, 2024. The season wrapped up on January 15, 2025.
As confirmed in an interview with Newsweek, Danielle Colby shared that the series would return for a 27th season, even returning the return date, saying, “It is confirmed! It is July 2.” As fans know, Colby managed Wolfe’s antique store, Antique Archaeology, in addition to starring on the show.
Reportedly, the new season will pick up where Season 26 left off. Wolfe, his brother Robbie, and Colby will continue to search for antiques, this time focusing on the American South.
As Collider noticed, the new season could also address concerns fans have been having with the series following the passing of Frank Fritz. While Fritz stopped appearing on the show since 2020, the publication noted his presence still haunts the show in various ways.
The History Series Has Seen Quite A Few Changes In Recent Years
In particular, it was reported that fans have criticized the series for becoming more commercial following Fritz’s departure. Following his passing, it was suggested that the new season could pay tribute to the late figure, such as focusing on locations he once picked.
In addition, the series and its cast have also gone through various changes over the years. Colby, for example, has branched out through the Ecdysiast Arts Museum, which focuses on burlesque history and performance art.
For his part, Wolfe has also made recent announcements concerning his career over the past year. This includes appearing in a film to closing one of his shops.
With its previous season, American Pickers also endured declining ratings. Viewership reportedly fell below 450,000 during some Season 26 episodes. That said, thanks to streaming and syndication deals, it’s believed History will keep the series running for a while.
