Steven McBee Jr. Shares Vulnerable Feelings Ahead of Life-Changing News
Steven McBee Jr. is speaking candidly about his family’s struggles as his father, Steven McBee Sr., prepares for federal prison sentencing. The star of “The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys” called the situation “scary” for their entire family.
Steven Sr. pleaded guilty to multi-million-dollar federal crop insurance fraud in November 2024. He is set to be sentenced on October 16, and prosecutors have asked for him to serve 41 months, via DTN.
Speaking to The Daily Dish, Steven Jr. described the emotional toll the situation has taken. “Scared, nervous, anything, and everything,” he said of how he’s felt in the weeks before the sentencing. “We love him so much, and love our family unit. So, to picture him not being here with us for any amount of time, it’s scary.”
While Steven Sr. appeared prominently in season 1, his absence was notable in season 2 as legal troubles mounted. Still, his presence was felt, something the Bravo star acknowledged while looking ahead to the court date.
“We’re focusing on the positive things we have going, of which there are so many, but I’d be lying if I said that black cloud hasn’t been hanging over us every second of every day since we first found out,” he said. “We’re ready to get past that day, deal with whatever comes of it, and move on, to say the least. We know no matter what, if we stick together as a family, we’ll make it through anything.”
On the season 2 finale, Steven Jr. shared the news of the federal investigation with his brothers Jesse McBee and Cole McBee, a moment that shifted the tone for the family. “My dad, he’s 51 years old. He’s getting up there in age. I’m definitely a little scared at the thought of my dad going to jail,” Jesse admitted to producers.
Steven Sr.’s ex-wife, Kristi McBee, echoed the sentiment. “You know, we don’t know what all is going to happen with Steve, but there’s a lot of love between us all,” she said.
Steven Jr. added, “We just love and support our dad and we know who he is. We know how hard he works, and how much he cares about us boys and our family.”
Each of the McBee brothers has taken on a larger role to keep the family’s businesses running. Jesse told Us Weekly in August, “We’re still learning day by day kind of how it’s all going to play out and our different roles. I’d say we’ve kind of settled into what we’re going to do.”
Steven Jr. stepped up as acting CEO, negotiating a six-figure brisket supply deal with Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque in Kansas City, while Cole took on a bigger role in construction and farming operations. Beyond the farm, the family also manages a statewide chain of car washes and continues to build a legacy for the next generation, including Cole and Kacie Adkison’s daughter, Blair Collins McBee, and Jesse and Alli McBee’s daughter, Summer Leigh McBee.
